Freestyle

Time key frames:

0:00 – 0:07

The strength of the kick does not comes from just bending your knees it starts with your hip and core, and a small bend of the knee, when your leg comes up have it straight then start the kick from your core down to your toes.

You are doing too many kicks, the more kicks doesn’t mean you will swim faster or be able to bring your legs up. Work on kick on your back, and focus on having your legs straight and your feet touching the surface.

Make sure that when your arms enter the water you fully stretch your arms to the front before starting the pull. Right now you keep your elbow bend.

Your pull is too slow, when you finish gliding and you bend your elbow to start the pull, accelerate the pull and do it strong.

0:07 – 0:15 Here you can see how you keep your elbow bend, make sure it is fully locked.

0:20 – 0:50 Better gliding, specially with your left arm.

Still work too do with the kick, specially on going up with your leg straight.

0:50 – 0:60 Good work, hips higher, pulling stronger and more gliding

1:00 – 1:05 Good flip turn! Keep practicing and you will feel more comfortable each time, make sure to pull strong right before the turn so you can bring your legs faster to the wall.

When you turn use your arms to do a curl so you can flip better and have a better position to get into a streamline faster.

Areas to work on, in general:

  • Excellent improvements day by day!!
  • Work on one thing at the time. Focus on correcting your kick first, then once you correct it go to the next point.
  • You are still kicking too much, frequency too high.
  • Overall your freestyle is good. Be sure to practice sets like counting your strokes and reducing them so you start to have a stronger pull and grab more water.
  • Work short distances keeping the best possible technique, as you improve, increase the swimming distances without changing your technique.
