Virginia: NCAA Champions

Recap of the swimming meet:

The Women’s Swimming & Diving Team of the University of Virginia just achieved the second title in a row.

The team led by Kate Douglass, Alex Walsh, Maddie Donohoe, Gretchen Walsh and Alexis Wenger, dominated the competition once again and finished with an overall score of 551.5 points. The runner up team was Texas with 406 points and in third position Stanford ended up with 399.5 points.

Certainly these Championships were unique in and outside of the pool, however, at the end all it matters is how well teams performed and certainly Virginia’s team must be very happy with where they are.

In one of the most exciting races of the entire meet, the women’s 400 free relay, Stanford challenged Virginia in the fastest race in the history of this relay. Virginia broke the NCAA and American record in the event with a time of 3:06.91.

The splits were:

Kate Douglass (46.62)

Alex Walsh (46.49)

Reilly Tiltmann (47.79)

Gretchen Walsh (46.01)
